International Conference 2001

2nd International Conference
DRAMA AND THEATRE EDUCATION

ATHENS 7-8-9 December 2001

«Theatre in education:
art form and learning tool»

Dear Colleagues welcome:

In this Conference we hope to offer you the chance to explore form, content and educational value of Drama/Theatre within secondary education in several European countries. Participants will share experience with drama teachers and researchers from countries as UK, Sweden, France, Spain, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Bosnia, Norway, Cyprus, Greece etc.
We also hope to develop a Balkan and Mediterranean network for drama educators and schools around the "playing against violence" idea.
Drama and Theatre teachers, research officers, theatre practitioners and artists are invited to contribute with keynote lectures and lots of practical workshops.

Some frequently asked questions in this country include:

  • Theatre Arts and school shows: Teaching performance skills? What is the educational value of school shows? Looking for the right play, working together with Theatre organizations?
  • Drama in the Curriculum: Separate art subject and methodology? Core or optional? What can its syllabus be? How can it be assessed? How is Drama-in-Education internationally assessed?
  • Drama as social intervention: Theatre-In-Education companies and projects, issues of interdisciplinary curriculum, environmental and health studies, intercultural and exclusion issues, drama for special needs, prisons etc.?
  • Teacher Training: What do University Departments offer? How do they prepare tomorrow's drama teacher, what is his/hers initial education and in-service training?

Complementary Seminars and the …extended Conference:

Five well known for their contributions in education and theatre teachers and artists will extend their stay in Athens and offer, to a limited number of…lucky ones, longer seminars! Please see relevant page for details.
