MAIN WORKSHOP

"Collective groove or do it like your granny"

Margarita Trikka

Language Greek and English

This is a workshop built on the ancient movement of bounce that springs from the breathing function and joins the beyond and the below. This movement is inherent in all primitive, folk and street dances; a common ground for all people.

The repetitiveness of the bounce will allow us to gradually study a variety of movements from a technical point of view, emphasizing on transitions without disrupting the natural flow; similar to the progressive shaping of a sculpture through repetitive rotation. We will focus on weight qualities, core function, isolation of legs, arms and head, and coordination between them, while gaining the sense of rhythm, arsis and thesis.

We will develop the movement ranging from minimal breaths to bounces, we will switch from crescendo to diminuendo, and build up our stamina while working on our breathing and flow. We will travel across multiple aesthetics (from African to Balkan, from hip hop to punk, from football to contemporary, among others) and explore our instant creative ability at a given context. Our goal is to create a collective bouncing body through which each of us can discover their own personal movement.

Based on the principles of contemporary dance, we will work on simplicity and composition. We will learn to function both as an ensemble and as unique entities within it, on the road to composing a collective piece. We seek to move from the simple performance of a dance piece to its interpretation, to give meaning to movement, to transform our steps into art.

The workshop is addressed to all of you who wish to work with your body, rhythm and creativity.
