Creating a Character Through the Body

In this workshop, each participant — regardless of prior experience — is invited to create a unique theatrical character born from their personal desire.
Through acting exercises and techniques that activate the body, voice, and imagination, we explore how a story takes on shape, movement, and soul.
The process does not begin with “should,” but with desire: Who is this character? What do they want to say? And why now?
With the help of selected texts (and beyond), participants will craft a character and a narrative, which we will share with each other — and possibly with an audience — through a final performance. In doing so, we not only explore the expressive tools of acting, but also our own creative identity.
Dimitra Syrou is a graduate of the ARCHI Drama School, founded by Nelli Karra. In 2011, she was nominated for the "Melina Mercouri" award for her performance in the monologue “My Name is Rachel Corrie”, directed by Mania Papadimitriou. She received the Best Actress Award for her role in the short film “The Ticket” by Haris Stathopoulos, at the 7th International Digital Film Festival. She has collaborated as an actress in theatre with Maria Tsaroucha, Vana Pefani, Katerina Polychronopoulou, Elena Tyrea, Dimitris Georgalas, among others, and on television in productions such as “The Other Me”, “Zoi”, and “The House by the River”, among others. She has participated in several short films and numerous workshops (with Nikita Milivojevic, Richard Nieoczym, Lena Filippova, Donald Kitt, etc).
Since 2013, she has been directing and teaching in Acting How?, a theatrical community she founded. She was an athlete in artistic and rhythmic gymnastics and volleyball, and before becoming an actress, she worked as a programmer (Microsoft Solution Developer & Navision Developer).
