«My name is... mine!"
Antigoni Tsarbopoulou, teacher, theatre pedagogue, Greece
WORKSHOP
Athens International Conference "Theatre/Drama & Inclusive Education"
21-23 of March 2025
Hellenic Theatre/Drama & Education Network (TENet-Gr)
Language: Greek
For a limited number of participants
Short description:
The workshop is a proposal for creative encounter and interaction in order to promote inclusive education.
It utilizes poetry and writing, creating the special conditions in which the personal oral and written expression of the participants and the willingness for communication and mutual understanding can be developed, cultivating intercultural competence.
Using stories and cultural elements associated with our name and the reading of Mahmoud Darwish's poem "Jidarijja" (translated to Greek by Jenny Karavitou), the participants through writing activities and theatrical techniques create their own, original material, which can be used in a variety of ways in the classroom.
The workshop has been held within the framework of the Program "It could be me, it could be you" in actions "Together" aiming at the cooperation of local and refugee students and youth population. It was also implemented within the action "Dialogues in Quarantine: names-stories-lyrics TOGETHER", from December 2020 to May 2021, under lock-down conditions with the participation of a total of 60 teenagers living in various cities of Greece (in the prefectures of Thessaloniki, Kozani, Grevena, Kavala, Drama, Serres, Ioannina and Lesvos), who participated in online workshops, met each other, shared stories and wrote small collaborative texts of poetic form.
The teenage refugees lived in various structures throughout the country, while all the students of the local population attended schools that collaborated with the program.
Conditions of participation: The workshop is addressed to teachers of all levels and specialties and to youth animators. No previous experience in theatre is required. We recommend that participants wear comfortable clothes. The workshop includes exercises with possible physical contact.
