Workshop description
The aim of the workshop is to explore the phenomenon of violence within the school environment and to strengthen mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and democratic culture within the school community.

The workshop was designed and implemented within the framework of the teacher training program “Art as an Antidote to Violence”, which took place during the 2025–2026 school year in 12 primary and secondary schools in the prefecture of Thessaloniki. The program was organized by the Hellenic Theatre/Drama & Education Network with the support of the Ministry of Culture. Its central objective was the prevention and confrontation of school violence through the power of art and collective creation.

The workshop seeks to create a safe space for encounter, expression, and dialogue, where theatrical practice functions as a means of understanding, empathy, and social change. Through collective creation, participants are given the opportunity to renegotiate attitudes and behaviors, to be meaningfully heard, and to imagine a school that is more democratic, inclusive, and free from violence.

The workshop methodology is based on the principles of Devised Theatre and incorporates cooperation and communication games, rhythm exercises, and techniques drawn from Physical Theatre and Collective Theatre.

Antigoni Tsarbopoulou is a graduate of the Department of Primary Education of the School of Education at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and of the Department of Philology of the Faculty of Philosophy at the same university.
