World Theatre/Drama & Education Day - 27 November 2020

The Hellenic Theatre/Drama and Education Network (TENet-Gr) ordinary member of the International Drama/Theatre & Education Association‐IDEA invites teachers, artists, theatre studies teachers, students to participate in the celebration of the World Day for Theatre/Drama & Education on November 27th, as established in 2008.

Since its foundation in 1998, the Hellenic Theatre/Drama and Education Network has always aimed at providing assistance for the performing arts in order that they gain a central role in schools, and to contribute to the development of approaches and techniques, viewing theatre as an art form, as learning tool and as a tool for social intervention. All these aspects of theatre interconnect, reinforce and serve a common vision: an education that would contribute to the cultivation of creative people that would show sensitivity and empathy to what is going on in our days and they would continue to evolve and live harmoniously with one another.

In Greece, the World Theatre/Drama & Education Day - November 27 has been since 2008 the continuation of the yearly conference "Encountering New Challenges" which TENet-Gr was organizing every Fall since 1999, as well as of the "Theatre in Education Day" which it was celebrating from 2005 to 2007.

The teenage writers, the persons who acted as liaisons, the interpreters, the writers who facilitated the workshops and the Action’s coordinators meet once more to share their experience in creating the book and beyond.

Join us to meet the texts and the people behind the book “The Quarantine Monologues”, to exchange ideas, thoughts and feelings for the present and the future.

A book created by young refugees during the spring quarantine, and relevant more than ever, will be our guide.

Extracts from the book will be read during the event.

The Action "The Quarantine Monologues"

Twenty-four teenage refugees living in Greece express, through texts and drawings, their thoughts and feelings during the coronavirus-induced temporary lockdown in Greece between April and May 2020. “The Quarantine Monologues” action started in March 2020, in the framework of the educational project “It could be me - it could be you”, organized and implemented by the Hellenic Theatre/Drama & Education Network (TENet-Gr) and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in Greece.
Τhe refugee boys and girls aged 13 to 19 years old, who took part in the action through a cycle of online writing workshops, are living in different accommodation facilities across the country, either with their families or unaccompanied. The workshops were coordinated by three authors-facilitators with the support of several interpreters, educators, psychologists and social workers.
“The Quarantine Monologues” publication is available on line in Greek and in English.

Let their voice be heard!

The call for action is addressed to educators, students, schools, artistic groups and associations all around the world, who are inspired by the publication and would like to use it creatively through artistic events, public readings, workshops, presentations etc.
