Communication without Violence for Schools without Violence

Athens, 24/11/2018

Maria Zanni, body psychotherapist, social anthropologist, criminologist, Greece

Workshop 2,5 hours
Part of the 2018 ATHENS GREECE INTERNATIONAL THEATRE/DRAMA & EDUCATION CONFERENCE
organised by the Hellenic Theatre/Drama & Education Network (TENet-Gr)

Language: Greek

The basic aim of the program is communication between the teacher and the student in an understandable, kind and peaceful way. In the “Communication without Violence for Schools without Violence” program we have focused mainly on the relationship between the teacher and the student and on the way that the teacher communicates with the student. We believe that the legal and within boundaries communication of the teacher with the student involves a certain amount of violence. We believe that the existing ways of encountering and preventing violence, either on a verbal level or on the practical level (expulsion etc.) involve violence which in essence creates a vicious circle of violence between the teacher and the student. In other words, the teacher is called upon under these conditions to a “change of paradigm” in the way he/she communicates with the student, and also in the way he/she perceives her/his role. The seminars are based on the work of M. Rosenberg and the work of T. Gordon. Both of these scientists have worked deeply on the issue of nonviolent communication and have focused to a high degree on how to implement nonviolent communication in schools. Thousands of teachers have been educated and implement their programs all over the world with notable results. We have worked with the language of nonviolent communication through dialogue, theatrical activities, focusing on the body and the language of the body.
The seminar includes the following thematic:
Basic principles of Communication: The language of the jackal- The language of the giraffe.
The steps in nonviolent communication: Observation and expression of feelings
The steps in nonviolent communication: Needs and the expression of request
Conflict resolution through nonviolent communication: the role of empathy
Activities for the prevention of violence and the avoidance of conflicts in schools through nonviolent communication. Practical implementation and educating students in nonviolent communication.
School Mediation.
Completion of the program, results, conclusions, evaluation.
The workshop is addressed to teachers, students and parents
