Short description

The workshop Exploring Contemporary Physical Theatre will focus on developing different techniques and ways the bodies can move and create valuable material that can be used to create a live, interesting and captivating performance.
Based on the techniques of contemporary European physical theatre and theatre laboratory work, skills the workshop leader has practiced for more than 30 years, this approach in the work of drama education develops physical awareness, active bodies and teaches ways to create captivating group scenes that enrich the practitioners as well as the work they are developing.

Dance and movement build visuospatial skills. It literally changes our perception. In physical theater and dance you learn skills that are fundamental in a human being’s life.  The more dance and drama-theatre is included in the curriculum, the more ready the children and youth will become for the future. As screen time is dominant in every culture, we must develop the physicality of every student and human being. They have to be strong but also soft and flexible in their body mind and spirit.

This technique can be used in the classroom or working with children, youth, seniors and people of all ages, or as professional work in theatre and choreography.
The warm up exercises based on the decades of physical work in theatre and dance of the workshop leader, will be beneficial for all, leading to routines that benefit the wellbeing and physical and mental health of the participants. The workshop is based on movement and physicality, but respects the ability of each individual participant.
Different movement scenes or etudes will be created, as well as devised sequence of dance.

Conference 2025 Events

At the Conference

Friday 21 March 2025, 9.15pm, at Theatre Hall

"Fine!"
A stand-up by Manal Awad actress, Palestine

"What is it like for a woman to leave Palestine as a refugee and try to settle in Greece? It is a somewhat difficult process, requiring adaptation and honest personal consideration.

The event fine! is a synthesis of personal narratives concerning everyday stories and events of my current life in Greece, compared to my life in Palestine. Being a female comedian in a male-dominated profession is not an easy task.

The enormous mental and artistic efforts you put in every day are as painful as cleaning the kitchen after dinner your partner cooked."
