Walk with Amal

A 3,5 meter high puppet with the form of a 9-year-old refugee girl will travel for 8.000 klm,
crossing Turkey and Europe, from July to November 2021.

The Walk with Amal is a mobile - peripatetic arts festival where a multitude of state, humanitarian and artistic institutions and organisations participate, from European as well as Asian countries under the auspices and coordination of Good Chance from the United Kingdom.

Amal will be walking in Greece in August-September 2021 (specific dates will be announced), in a great march which in our country will set off from Chios island, will continue to Piraeus, Athens, Eleusina, Larissa, Trikala and will conclude in Ioannina and Igoumenitsa before departing for Italy.

In every stop, we are planning to cooperate closely with the artistic community of each place and the scheduling and hosting of events which will showcase the cultural wealth of the city and will promote it to the international audience that follows closely Amal's walk in person or online.

An important part of this entire initiative is the educational project "One step forward", which will take place alongside the artistic activities of The Walk. Before, after but also during her walk, little Amal will bring young people in touch with each other through projects of creative learning, aiming to create a worldwide network of educators, organisations and groups.

TheWALK

Little Amal continues her walk

on 27 & 28 of August in Ioannina!

"Don't forget us" is the message relayed by 9-year-old Amal who began from Syria and is crossing Europe, in search for her mother around the lands that unravel ahead of her. She walks from country to country, meets other children and people, always with the hope that somewhere a home will be there for her to stay, grow up, get educated and create her own world.

After the enthusiastic reception of Little Amal in Chios, her Walk continues in the city of Ioannina on 27 & 28 of August.

Friday 27 of August 2021@ 20:00 "Walking with the Words"

Little Amal begins her route from the area of Katsikas, where Habibi Works organization is receiving her. Bridging the gap of 8 kilometers between the refugee camp of Katsikas and the crowded city center of Ioannina, her way will be lit by more than 1500 light boxes with words in a collaborative installation.
From within a gigantic light box the shadows come to life and accompany her in a musical journey that begins in Epirus and reaches all of Greece and the East.
The light boxes were created in the artistic workshops organized by artists, community members, numerous organizations and institutions of the city.

Saturday 28 of August 2021 – Sounds in the castle: "Marigo and Yannos - eternal passage"
We walk from Mavili square towards the Castle @19:30
Music performance begins @ 20:30 in the Museum of Silverworking, Its Kale - Ioannina Akropolis.

Amal walks towards the Ioannina pier

Amal will walk along the lakeside towards the Ioannina pier. There, she meets children and young people from the Youth Centre of Epirus and plays with them a "scavenger hunt" with an intercultural character, designed by the artist and pedagogue Alexandra Zoi. The children lead her inside the Castle.

She is the honored guest in a music performance created especially for her. The performance is inspired by the traditional, polyphonic, epirote song "Yannos and Marigo", which consists of a metaphysical base from love to death. Natural instruments, sounds of stone and air, in new compositions that are blended with contemporary dance in an integral dramaturgy. Alexandros Rizopoulos is the composer and editor of the performance, videoartist Kostis Emmanouilidis, the polyphonic ensemble Anassa and Alenti group also participate.
