A hands-on acting workshop focused on collective storytelling and physical transformation, using the minimal means of "poor theatre."
Through performance techniques, paper bag masks, and creative improvisation, participants transform ancient and modern texts into live theatrical actions.
The workshop cultivates imagination, active listening, and collaboration, encouraging the creation of a unified voice through multiple physical and narrative identities. Ideal for those seeking a theatrical experience beyond sets and costumes.
Simos Kakalas was born in Thessaloniki, he graduated from the Drama School of the National Theatre of Northern Greece (NTNG). He began his professional career as an actor and member of the theatre company Nees Morfes. The experimental and physical nature of the group’s work significantly influenced his artistic path. In 2000, he joined the NTNG as an actor, starring in several productions, while also working as an assistant director. In 2003, he formed the company later known as Choros Theatre Company, aiming to create a model of ensemble work that merges artistic research with professional sustainability. His multifaceted work on The Goλfω! Project became a theatrical expression of 15 years of research. In 2007, he began his exploration of the Cretan fifteen-syllable verse, which culminated in the equally complex Erofili Project. In 2013, he presented the poem Syssimon by N. Panagiotopoulos at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. In 2018, he closed a creative chapter with the production Wuthering Heights and his work with Choros Theatre Company. He has directed productions for the NTNG, the National Theatre of Greece, the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, the Onassis Cultural Centre, and the Greek National Opera. He is a permanent faculty member at “Dilos” Drama School and has also taught acting at the drama schools of the National Theatre, NTNG, Patras Municipal and Regional Theatre (DIPETHE), as well as at the National Theatre’s directing department.
