Workshop description
If we type the Greek word for “acting” (υποκρίνομαι) into ChatGPT and ask for its etymology, it gives the following result:
Originally, the word meant “to answer” (in Homeric times) or “to interpret.”
In ancient theatre, as tragedy evolved from the dialogue between a single actor and the chorus, the word came to mean “to respond to one’s scene partner on stage.”
Obviously, this simplification does not answer the question of what acting really is, and we certainly will not answer it ourselves in a three-hour workshop. Let us hope that we do not burden these three hours with the weight of an expected result or a specific purpose. Let imagination and the encounter with the unknown be our only purpose. To play and experiment through exercises, following the tradition of the Russian school, as envisioned by Konstantin Stanislavski and Yevgeny Vakhtangov.

Dimitris Apostolopoulos is an actor and director. He is a graduate of the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of the Peloponnese, as well as a graduate of the Drama School of the National Theatre of Greece. In theatre, he has collaborated with directors such as Kataleifos, Skevas, Tzakou, Skourlis, Moumoulidis, and others. In television, he has worked with Karantinakis, Angelopoulos, Konstantatos, Konstantinidis and others. He has directed the productions Bull by Mike Bartlett and Pavlov by Gustavo Ott. He is also a member of the Activist Theatre of the Oppressed group.
