Main Workshop
Change of frame: Participatory arts for exploring gender in professional applications

The workshops will include performance and visual based methods from physical theatre, improvisation and dramatherapy to create a reflective space where the kinaesthetic aspects of our experiences come alive!
We will use movement and psychosocial mapping exercises to make meaning of our gendered experiences in public and professional places.
We will explore how we move, feel and perform gender and its intersections with class, ethnicity and age within professional environments.
We will explore the following questions:
What are the feelings that stick with us and on us related to our gendered positions, which affect the interactions and spaces we inhabit?
What are the resources we have to have in place to facilitate change and address inhibiting gendered and social practices at work?
How one can apply the workshop’s methods when working with mixed gendered groups?
Big questions, that we might feel their weight, but these workshops won’t weight us down because of the fun, caring and energizing methods of participatory performance practices.
During the workshops we will have space to reflect on our own experiences working with groups.
Participants don’t need to bring anything with them in the workshops apart from their wonderful selves who live in their bodies!
Erene Kaptani is a participatory performance artist from Lesvos, Greece living in London. Her participatory performance practice is informed by her studies in anthropology community and youth work, and dramatherapy. She has expertise in participatory performance for social research, community building and public impact. She is using narrative and movement-based methods inspired by Improvisation and physical Theatre, as well Playback and Forum Theatre. She is a member of Playback South Theatre Company and devises performances at Studio Upstairs arts community. She produced, wrote and performed in Suspended Lives, a play with refugee groups in Tars Arts and Rich Mix. Her current play ‘Me? I just Put British!’ is about the ‘hostile environment’ in Britain. She devises performances and facilitates community, professional and academic training to question the constructions of social identities, institutional and public communications. Her international work is published in journals and social media.
